1. Top Choice – Barista Warrior Stainless Steel Pour Over Coffee & Tea Kettle with Thermometer

Barista Warrior Stainless Steel Pour Over Coffee and Tea Kettle with Thermometer

Brand: Barista Warrior

Volume: 40 Oz (1.2 L)

  • Built in thermometer
  • Choose between silver or copper colors
  • Ergonomic handle
  • Lightweight

PRICE & REVIEWS

Pros

  • Airtight lid for efficient heating
  • Works on induction hobs
  • Comfortable handle
  • Drip free spout
Cons

  • No free shipping option

The Barista Warrior Gooseneck Kettle takes a classic design and reinforces it with modern tweaks.

The spout gives you lovely control over your water flow, with zero unwanted drips. The ergonomic handle makes this kettle feel natural to hold.

The thermometer ensures you can get the perfect brewing temperature. The 195°F to 205°F range is highlighted. So it’s quick to read, and clear to see when the hot water is just right.

While this kettle can hold 40 Oz, it is recommended to only fill it with 32 Oz.

The kettle is made from surgical-grade stainless steel. While stainless steel is the standard in durability, it can be fun to change up the style. The Barista Warrior Gooseneck Kettle does come in a silver version, but why not opt for a stylish, modern, artisan copper color instead?

Compared to the Soulhand Pro above they’re pretty similar, I enjoy the copper colour of the Barista Warrior but it’s missing Soulhands triple layer base to stop rusting, the Barista warrior only has a double layer…

OK I’m definitely getting too into the weeds, they’re both great so to be entirely honest I’d pick the one you like the look of more!

2. Runner Up – Soulhand Gooseneck Pour Over Coffee Kettle

Soulhand Pour Over Kettle with Thermometer

Brand: Soulhand

Volume: 40 Oz (1.2 L)

  • Uniquely shaped spout
  • Built in thermometer
  • Use it on any stovetop
  • Ergonomic handle
  • Stainless steel design

Pros

  • Comfortable heat proof handle

  • Clearly marked thermometer
  • Works on induction, gas and electric stovetops

Cons

  • It’s working capacity is only 0.8L
  • If the outer coating gets a deep scratch it’s noticable

Soulhand has paid particularly strong attention to the fine details when they made their gooseneck kettle.

It is almost always the smallest details that make the biggest difference. I really enjoy the uniquely shaped spout which is designed to produce an extremely smooth laminar flow, giving you the best pour possible.

The ergonomic handle extends far from the kettle body, allowing you to get a seriously comfortable grip while keeping your hand far from the hot kettle body. And having burnt myself while making coffee take it from me, this is important!

Of course, this gooseneck kettle has a built-in thermometer. The temperature gauge has the 195°F to 205°F temperature range marked out so that it is super clear when you have the perfect water temperature.

The Soulhand Gooseneck Kettle is made from durable stainless steel with a matte black finish. The triple-layer base allows this kettle to work on absolutely any stove; be it gas, electric, induction, or even an open fire. It is also available in a 34 Oz version for those who want a smaller kettle.

3. Best For Induction Hob – Coffee Gator True Brew Gooseneck Kettle

Gooseneck Kettle - Coffee Gator True Brew Coffee Kettle

Volume: 54 Oz (1.6 L)

  • Double-Pin Thermometer
  • Protective and Insulative Silicone Jacket
  • Triple-Layer Base lets you use any type of stovetop
  • Durable Stainless Steel Kettle
  • Supreme functionality

PRICE & REVIEWS

Pros

  • Flip lid for faster filling
  • Can read temperature while lid is flipped
  • temperature reads in Fahrenheit or degrees,
Cons

  • Hard to get hand inside to clean it
  • temperature gauge could have more indicators for more accurate reading

Coffee Gator have produced a truly unique design. To make the True Brew, they studied all of the best gooseneck kettles on the market, included the best design aspect, and even improved on many designs.

The result is this, the True Brew. It is a truly unique and innovative design. You won’t find a gooseneck kettle like it; really, they patented it.

The sharp and sleek gooseneck spout really gives you the perfect pour and water flow rate over your coffee grounds.

I really like the thermometer on the True Brew. Whether you prefer to read temperature in Fahrenheit or degrees, it’s quick and easy to read.

This thermometer uses a double-pin design; one half of the dial is in degrees, the other is in Fahrenheit. So one side of the needle is pointing at the water temperature in Fahrenheit, the other side is pointing at the equivalent temperature in degrees. Simple and effective.

It’s clear that Coffee Gator use their own products. The silicone jacket not only provides a layer of insulation, but it also doubles as protection for your fingers from bumping the side of the boiling kettle. Safety first.

To top it all off, the triple-layer base ensures that you can use the True Brew on any stovetop: gas, electric, or even induction.

Coffee Gator includes a 1-year warranty for return or replacement warranty on all products in the event of manufacturing faults.

4. Best for V60 & Chemex – Hario Buono Stovetop Gooseneck Coffee Kettle

Hario Gooseneck Coffee Kettle 'Buono'

Brand: Hario

Volume: 40 Oz (1.2 L)

  • Super smooth pouring
  • Classic pretty design
  • Very comfortable handle

PRICE & REVIEWS

Pros

  • Very accurate pouring
  • Stylish design
  • Works on all hobs
Cons

  • Holes on top release steam that can burn you
  • Doesn’t feel as premium as it should at that price

Meet the Hario Buono, the perfect pairing for the Hario V60. It is the classic design that sets the standard for gooseneck kettles worldwide.

Pouring with the Buono really is smooth and hassle-free. It makes a noticeable difference over a regular making pour-over coffee with a regular kettle.

This version comes in a modern, stylish, matte black finish but it is also available in the classic silver. Not to mention a smaller 1L version and a 0.8L electric version.

The lid goes in deep enough to stay secure, unlike some other versions available, although it would be nice if it was held in place with a clip rather than just the depth of the lid itself.

The holes in the lid are big enough to allow steam to escape when you have boiling water. Unfortunately, the holes are not large enough to fit a probe in to measure the temperature, so you either need to keep opening the lid and checking or let it boil and watch the temperature as it cools down.

5. Best for Kalita Wave – Kalita Copper 600 Gooseneck Pot

Kalita Copper 600 Pot

Brand: Kalita

Volume: 21 Oz (600ml)

  • Unique pot shape
  • Stainless steel with copper exterior
  • Perfect size for a single serving
  • Small enough for travel

PRICE & REVIEWS

Pros

  • Looks incredible
  • Heats up efficiently
Cons

  • Very expensive
  • Small capacity

We’ve talked about the perfect pairing for a V60, now here we have the perfect pairing for the Kalita Wave.

The Kalita Copper 600 Gooseneck Pot doesn’t have a typical kettle shape. Really, it is shaped more like a classic percolator pot.

It is made of stainless steel and lined on the exterior with copper. There’s no plastic, so there’s no risk of melting plastic.

The pot is smaller than it looks. It is 600ml, so it holds half the volume of most other gooseneck kettles. It is the perfect size for one cup of coffee, just like the Kalita Wave.

The small size can make it tricky to heat water on a large hob. In the case of electric hobs, I recommend making sure the handle isn’t above the ring; on gas hobs, you’ll want to keep the flame low. Otherwise, you’ll need gloves to pick it up.

Because it’s quite petite, it can also make a great travel kettle. While a kettle may not be the most compact thing to take with you, this one is about as small and compact as you can get.

Gooseneck Kettle Buyer’s Guide

Gooseneck kettles are for coffee brewing.

They’re particularly used for pour-over coffee, but they can also make a massive improvement to other brewing methods such as french press and AeroPress.

The whole point of a gooseneck kettle is to give you as much control over how you pour hot water into your coffee dripper. When you have more control over your pour, it’s so much easier to make better-tasting coffee.

Spout

Gooseneck kettles, as the name hints, are all about the spout. The whole point is to let you pour your pour-over coffee exactly how and where you want to.

It’s that long, narrow, curvy spout that gives you all of the control over your pour.

A regular kettle just is not accurate enough. With the short and wide spout on a regular kettle, the accuracy of your pour is pretty much, “a splash over there”.

It can seem, at first, like a lot of attention to a small detail. In coffee, it’s often the small details that make the biggest differences.

Thermometer

As well as being able to control your pour, you want to make sure that your coffee is at the perfect brewing temperature.

Many stovetop gooseneck kettles come with a thermometer gauge built-in. That way you know exactly when the water is at your desired temperature.

Pour Over Brewing Tips

Temperature

The perfect temperature for brewing coffee is between 195 and 205 Fahrenheit.

If it is too hot, you will extract harsh and bitter flavors. If it is too cold, your coffee will taste thin and flat.(Study)

Between 195 and 205 might seem like quite a precise temperature to have pinned down for a cup of Joe, but it is the tried and tested temperature to make the best coffee possible.

Grind

When grinding your coffee beans, you absolutely want to use a burr grinder. Not a blade grinder. There’s a very good reason for this.

Different brew methods take different lengths of time. So to prevent your coffee from over-extracting or under-extracting, you want to use coffee beans ground to a different coarseness depending on how long your brewing method takes.

A burr grinder lets you control the size of your grind because it crushes beans between its burrs. When the bean bits are too small to be ground down anymore, they fall between the burrs. So you can control the grind size by adjusting the space between the burrs.

On the other hand, a blade grinder just chops randomly at the beans until they can’t be chopped anymore. It makes a really inconsistent grind and you have next to no control over the grind size.

The ideal grind size for pour over coffee is a medium grind. Check out this article here to read more about the perfect grind for pour over coffee.

The Golden Ratio of Coffee

The perfect ratio of coffee to water is called The Golden Ratio of Coffee.

While you will find many people claiming boldly that they know what the perfect coffee ratio is, the truth is, it completely depends on your preference. So the golden ratio of coffee is really your own personal golden ratio.

Coffee ratios are usually expressed in grams of coffee per milliliters (or grams) of water (since 1ml of water is pretty much 1g).

Some people will say that the golden ratio of coffee is a 1:12 ratio, that’s 1 gram of coffee per 1 gram of water. Other places might go as far as to say a 1:18 ratio is best.

Personally, I like a 1:15 ratio.

Play around with it and see what you think is best. You might even find your golden ratio changes depending on your brew process, the beans you use, or even the water you brew with.

Choose Your Coffee Maker Wisely

When it comes to coffee brewers, with pour-over in particular, you have a plethora of different gadgets to choose from. Whether it’s the stylish Chemex, the similar but cheaper Bodum, the small and functional Hario V60, or the clever OXO automatic dripper, you won’t be stuck for choice.

Other Stovetop Gooseneck Kettles

Brewista BA6STKPW Artisan Gooseneck Stovetop Kettle, 700ml, Pearl White

Brewista BA6STKPW Artisan Gooseneck Stovetop Kettle

Brand: Brewista

Volume: 24 Oz (700ml)

  • Heat-proof wood handle and lid
  • Stylish pearl white finish
  • Perfect to make a massive single serve or two small mugs

PRICE & REVIEWS

This is one seriously lightweight and stylish little kettle. It takes an uncommon style approach for most gooseneck kettles with pearl white paint and wood accents.

The wood handle and lid not only look great, but they double as heat-proof materials. So you would really have to boil the kettle for a while before the handle was too hot to hold.

While it looks super stylish, the white can be prone to scorching if you use it on a gas stovetop.

With a 700ml capacity, it’s certainly a smaller kettle than other models, but it is also plenty to make one massive cup of coffee. Or two small mugs.

Honourable Mention – Best Electric Gooseneck Kettle

Yes, this article is about stovetop gooseneck kettles in particular, but there is one electric gooseneck kettle that is just fantastic and it deserves an honourable mention.

In fact, there is even a stovetop version of it.

Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Pour-over Kettle with Variable Temperature Gooseneck Kettle in Matte Black

Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Pour-over Kettle For Coffee And Tea Matte Black

Brand: Fellow

Volume: 32 Oz (0.9 L)

  • Variable Temperature Control
  • 1200W
  • Built-in Stopwatch
  • Avaliable in 4 different sleek styles

PRICE & REVIEWS

The Fellow Stagg EKG electric pour over kettle is a true set-it-and-forget-it. Well, don’t actually forget about it.

With a 1200W heating element to heat up your water, it has plenty of power to do the job quickly.

It has a built in variable temperature control. It allows you to set the temperature you want the water to heat up to. So the water won’t ever become too hot and you don’t need to watch over a thermometer to take it off the heat when it’s just right.

It also has a built in stopwatch. Timing how long you take to make your drip coffee really does take the guesswork out of pouring your pour over. Just set the timer and pour the right amount of water in that time.

Final Thoughts

Phew. We made it.

That’s my summary of the best stovetop gooseneck kettles on the market today.

There were plenty of other models that were considered such as Willow & Everett and Bonavita kettles, but I think this selection covers all of the bases for high quality and price point.
