Considerations for Choosing a Manual Coffee Grinder
When selecting a manual coffee grinder, there are several factors to consider:
- Quality and Durability
- Grinding Settings
- Ease of Cleaning
- Design and Portability
- Manufacturer Support
Quality and Durability
Look for a manual coffee grinder made of high-quality materials such as stainless steel. This ensures that it is durable and can withstand daily use. A grinder with a high-efficiency burr and double-bearing support spindle is also desirable for more even and fine grinding results.
Grinding Settings
Choose a grinder that offers adjustable grinding settings to control the size of the coffee bean particles. Different brewing methods require different grind sizes, so having the flexibility to adjust the settings is essential. Ensure that the grinder provides accurate control over the coffee beans, ideally with microns per click measurements.
Ease of Cleaning
Consider a grinder that is easy to clean. Look for one that can be easily installed and disassembled without the need for tools. The package should include cleaning tools such as a brush to simplify the cleaning process. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for disassembling and cleaning, as improper disassembly may affect the grinder’s accuracy.
Design and Portability
The grinder should have a fashionable and compact design that doesn’t take up too much space. Portability is also important, so opt for a grinder that is small and easy to carry. A durable storage box can be a beneficial inclusion, allowing you to use the grinder in various settings such as the kitchen, car, or outdoors.
Manufacturer Support
Choose a manual coffee grinder from a reputable manufacturer that offers high-quality products and reliable customer support. Look for manufacturers that assemble important parts at the factory to ensure easy assembly for customers. If you encounter any problems, the manufacturer should be responsive and provide a satisfactory solution within a reasonable timeframe.

Easy to use, I tested it prior to sending as a gift and it worked great and had no issues. The Overall design made it easy to hold and use.

This was my first venture into the world of hand-crank coffee grinders. This is an attractive-looking machine that functions as a very effective grinder for a single serving of coffee. It’s also notable for offering a highly granular degree of control of grind size, which is adjusted via a step-by-step clicking dial on the bottom that clicks as it turns. (The instructions provide ranges for how many clicks are needed for various methods of coffee brewing). I have used this grinder for my typical French press as well as the occasional espresso, with great results in terms of taste. An advantage of this is that it allows me to try different types of coffee by storing the beans whole and grinding “just enough” to taste in each cup.
I did find it takes a lot of force to keep the grinder anchored to the counter while turning the crank. This is true for French press (coarse grind) but even more so for espresso (fine grind). The finer the grind, the harder you have to work the crank. For this reason, I’m only likely to use this occasionally. However, it’s a great little tool to have, and I imagine if you were super-serious about having freshly ground coffee all the time, you could even pack it back up in the beautiful box it came in and tote it around with you.

I hesitated to review this coffee grinder as I now see that it is no longer available – but in case it is offered again for sale or you find an identical model, here is my unbiased opinion of this wonderful manual coffee grinder.

This is the best small manual coffee grinder I have ever seen and used!
I absolutely love using it and it is now my go-to everyday grinder, even though I have a faster (and louder) electric one in the cupboard.

It is presented in a very well designed and well made presentation box along with a more than adequate cleaning brush and a set of instructions.

There are three sections to this grinder, a top cover, a center section that houses the grinding burr and the bottom collection container. The collection container screws onto the central housing while grinding and is unscrewed once grinding is finished to reveal the fresh-ground coffee.

You add whole coffee beans to the grinder by lifting off the top section and filling it with as many whole beans as needed to make one or two cups.

My preference is for 16 grams of my favorite roast.

I’ve found that the top section will only hold no more than 25 grams of whole beans.
The main section of the grinder holds the burr that grinds the coffee as finely or coarsely as you like.

Setting the grind is accomplished by turning a dial at the bottom of the grinder.
This feature allows for very fine or very coarse grinds and anything in between. If you would like to make espresso coffee, for example, just dial in a much finer grind.
Personally,
I leave the dial on the 13th ‘click’ ( quite fine) which i’ve found to produce the perfect grind of coffee for me.

Cranking the handle clock-wise starts the grinding process, and its a satisfying feeling listening to the beans being ground as you turn the crank.
16 grams of coffee takes approx. 100 turns and approx. 1 1/2 minutes to produce the most wonderful aroma and the most wonderful tasting home-brewed coffee I’ve ever made.

As mentioned, the center section contains the stainless steel burr which grinds quicker, finer and is much preferred over a ceramic burr.

The entire burr mechanism can be taken apart for thorough cleaning and then re-assembled. (Take note of the parts and the order or assembly to avoid putting things back the wrong way!)

All in all – I highly recommend this grinder.

It is satisfying to use and produces ground coffee equal in quality to far more expensive electric or electronic grinders on the market today.
It will also make a nice gift for a coffee-loving friend or relative.

This grinder is a perfect size to grip while using. Easy to set the grind and a really nice high quality design. Easy to travel with and a nice carrying case. It is worth the extra time to use manually versus the electric expensive types that don’t work. I love it!
