Belle cafetière 14 tasses. Simple et avec son réservoir amovible c’est toujours propre. Le mettre à rich pour un café plus goûteux. Elle tient le café bien au chaud.

Makes a very good pot of coffee.

To be clear, we are not coffee snobs who weigh everything, roast our beans, or use a French press. However, we grind our own beans and are particular about their taste. For reference we buy Ethiopian and Sumatra Mandheling regularly. This coffee maker makes an excellent cup of coffee and that’s what is important as far as we’re concerned. We do have a couple of pour-over coffee makers and a thermal carafe for use with one of them. But unless one of us is making just one cup, the drip coffee maker gets the task.

Good features: quality build, removable tank, attached scoop, pre-infusion (bloom), adjustable hot plate timeout (see below), excellent coffee.

Not so good: Steam rises through top and can collect on underside of cabinet or lights that may be there. Venting could have been at the back of the unit to minimize contact with wood and electric components. The ability to change the time of the hot plate timeout should be in intervals of 5 or even single minutes instead of 15. The “cup” volume is 5 1/2 oz which is kind of odd. Most other coffee makers are either 5 or 6 oz. Although not really a negative, you need to be aware that filling the tank while it is attached to the machine will render a different level from filling at the tap because the tank starts to drain into the heater.

We have not been bothered at all by the added time for brewing from the pre-infusion cycle. I believe not being a short enough brew time is why this machine is not SCAA certified. But we don’t mind at all because we believe the pre-infusion enhances the taste of the brew, and even makes what were borderline nasty cups from major brand pre-ground (made in our previous machines) taste pretty decent.

All in all, we highly recommend this machine especially to those who think being a coffee snob is, well, being snobbish.

I’ve only had this coffee maker a short while, so my opinion may change over time.
It’s aesthetically pleasing and fits well on my counter top. The attached measuring spoon on the side is a unique idea. The carafe handle is comfortable in hand and I really like the locking lid.

I’d read that the clock functions on many coffee makers do not keep good time. This one has been extremely consistent for the several days that I’ve had it.

Easy to understand instruction booklet and easy to operate.

It does not brew coffee quite as hot nor quite as strong as my last coffee maker, even on the “rich” setting. I just use rounded instead of level scoops to achieve desired strength. Also, the warming plate does not keep the coffee in the carafe as hot as I’m used to. I’ll just have to adjust to drinking faster. With a little user adjustment, it brews a very tasty pot of coffee.

I don’t like the fact that it requires manual turn off. After brewing and the stay warm function ends, the machine is technically off, but it still requires you to push the “off” button. I’m accustomed to automatic “off”, so it’s just something to train myself to do.

I have not used the “delay brew” or “small batch” functions yet. I may eventually try both just to see if they work.

There seems to be a fair amount of condensation that builds up in the water reservoir when not in use. It may be that this occurred in previous coffee makers as well, it just wasn’t as appreciable as with the Ninja’s wide open, crystal clear reservoir. I’ve been leaving the lid ajar to alleviate some of the condensation.

We keep the coffee maker next to the sink and are in the habit of using the sink sprayer to fill the reservoir. The removable reservoir would be very handy in some circumstances, but I likely won’t be removing it except for cleaning purposes.

After researching coffee makers on several third party review sites, the final decision was between the Ninja and the Cuisinart Perfect Temp (comparable price, functions and reviews). My previous coffee maker, that recently died an early death, was the Cuisinart so I elected to go with the Ninja. Hopefully it will have a longer lifespan than the Cuisinart. If not, then I still have the 50+ year old Sunbeam percolator and a French press to fall back on.
At this writing, I would recommend this coffee maker as long as one does not expect really hot coffee.
