Selecting the Perfect Whole Bean Coffee

Consider Your Flavor Preference

Real Good Coffee Company offers a Donut Shop Medium Roast Coffee that has a classic sweet and smooth flavor. If you enjoy a balanced and medium-bodied coffee, this would be a great option for you. However, if you prefer a bolder or lighter flavor profile, you may want to explore other roast levels offered by the company.

Quality of the Beans

The Real Good Coffee Company uses 100% whole Arabica beans grown in Central and South America. Arabica beans are known for their superior quality and rich flavor. They are carefully sourced and packaged responsibly, ensuring freshness and ethical production practices.

Selecting the Bag Size

This particular product comes in a 2-pound bag. Consider your coffee consumption habits and freshness preferences when choosing the bag size. If you consume coffee daily or have a larger household, a larger bag can save you from frequent repurchases.

I’ve been looking for coffee beans that make a solid cup of coffee, and I’m delighted to say that I found it!

Coffee preferences and tastes are very subjective, and what’s good to one person might not be to another, so keep that in mind.

What I want in a good cup of coffee is a straight forward coffee taste. No bitterness, no burnt taste, just something smooth and simple.

I don’t use a lot of sweetener in my coffee, I generally make it in my Keurig and add a dollop of heavy whipping cream and sometimes a teaspoon of chocolate Keto Chow for the sweetness and flavor. This coffee tastes like a lightly sweetened coffee candy when I make it that way.

When I opened the bag, I was welcomed with the delicious aroma of quality coffee, and this bean does deliver on that promise. It’s a solid bold flavor without being too strong, and the coffee taste isn’t lost when I add the chocolate keto chow and heaving whipping cream.

Once this bag is almost empty I’ll begin subscribing to it for regular deliveries. it’s that good.

I was prepared to write a review comparing it ti Safeway coffee or Maxwell House.
Instead, the coffee was not at all bad. Better than Starbucks brand by far.
I bought the Dark French Roast; excellent “crema” and nice aroma.

It’s always a crap-shoot buying beans from Amazon; you never know what you will get.
For me, the best coffees I can buy are the (locally available) organic Cuban, Hawaiian Kona (only from reliable sources), and Ethiopian Harrar (haven’t tried “civet poo” coffee yet – too expensive). YMMV

In this time of lockdown, this stuff certainly does the trick.

It’s a big bag o beans, dark and smoky. I’ll vacuum seal most of it in smaller bags. Tastes at least as good as Peet’s, my previous grocery store favorite, but less expensive.

I read the reviews on the top French roast coffee beans. I took a small chance on the hope the beans would be fresh. No disappointment!!
Beans looked like they just came out of the roaster. Excellent coffee!

I ordered Breakfast Blend for the first time in late 2023, and I received beans all of same roast : light end of medium. My wife and I liked this product, so we decided to reorder more of it in the near future…

So in late July 2023 my wife ordered our 2nd delivery of Breakfast Blend, but much to our disappointment we received a blend of two roasts; medium + dark. It’s not hard to imagine such roast blending being commonplace among brands that offer ready-ground coffee, but we didn’t expect this in whole bean. Mind you, I’ve been purchasing whole bean coffees since about 2003, and never before have I gotten a bag filled with anything other than than a single homogeneous shade of brown.

    BOTTOM LINE
You might get a single roast of beans; all of a shade that is the lighter end of medium. That one tasted good to us, even though we couldn’t classify it as “true light roast”. Or you might get a mixture of both medium and dark beans. That batch had a distinctive burnt flavor, which we don’t like. Unless we find later reviews of Breakfast Blend describing it as a single roast that is ACTUALLY ( as opposed to nominally ) not darker than the lighter end of medium roast, we won’t repurchase it. Hopefully Real Good will get either their QC act or their labelling act together.

A fine bean, but price (for us) is a factor for repurchase…

As a couple that drinks two cups each (or more) per day, we have a lot of opportunity to try roasts out. This blend was quite nice, not too anything. Pretty well balanced overall.
Since we go through bags so quickly, paying $35/bag adds up quickly, and while we enjoy the blend, there are other blends (much less expensive) that we are more partial towards. That is the only reason this doesn’t get a higher rating.

TL:DR, this blend is definitely worth a try if you’re looking for a new bean and willing to spend a little extra.

My wife and I have been brewing coffee for years, mainly to get a better bargain than what you get driving through Starbucks (PNW native here, these are fighting words already where we’re from), but also because the quality compared to drip coffee from these types of establishments is either burnt, old, bitter, take your pick. It hasn’t always been this way, we used to watch our checking account drain as the addictive convenience of getting a morning boost in the car was too good to turn down. But the pandemic (and with it, working from home) brought us back to brewing our own more consistently, and believing we would be doing this for a while we thought it necessary to put some time and effort into researching what roasts would earn their way into our cupboard. Heed all who read further: your search for your new favorite home-brewed coffee ends here. We have tried all of “Real Good Coffee Co.’s” whole bean roasts which we grind daily and drip through our Braun filtered coffee maker (another topic but wow, best kitchen appliance ever), and not one disappointed. Every. Single. Batch. About as fresh as you can imagine, so much so that my pregnant wife will open it when it arrives just to smell it, never at a time of day where we are even brewing coffee, it’s great. I tend to go towards the Breakfast blend myself, she prefers the dark, but we have not gotten a single batch that was even slightly off in terms of freshness. Very consistent on the roast, so we expect and are delivered the same quality every time. And in an air-tight 2 lb. bag you definitely get a killer deal per cup compared to the afore mentioned drive-thrus. We tried so many highly-rated roasteries from all over the world in our quest, and plenty of small local shops as well (good ones out there also, support local! Just a different experience-go through their drive-thrus!), and RGCC wins every time. I’m almost certain I’ve formed an addiction, and aknowledging that for me is the first step to buying more bags, baby. This is a 100% unsolicited review, and in fact I very rarely write reviews (don’t let the wordiness of this one fool you, I just finished a cup and the power of the bean is manifesting through my thumbs), however the product these guys put out very much warranted some praise. Plus, it’s important that folks recognize the greatness that comes out of the PNW (sorry ‘bux, not to knock you here, you play your role), and these guys fit the script!

UPDATE: if you like dark and strong coffee stick with the French Roast, last order i tried the Organic Dark and even my girlfriend who is not a big coffee drinker thought the organic had a weak flavor

After losing our older local safeway i’ve found it hard to track down the safeway select french roast in bulk whole been for use in my press. This coffee may be my new fav, its got great taste and decent price for 2lbs.

This was my go to coffee for a while, mainly because of the quality for the price. With the price increases (most recently $5) may be time to find a new everyday blend.

Wife is 100% addicted and she has loved the Dunkin coffee for some years, but tried this and likes it even better.

We’ve been working our way through lots of lighter blends available online. I had high hopes for RGCC Breakfast Blend but I was a bit disappointed. It lacks much flavor and tastes “thin” – a bright taste, without being too bitter, but not much else. Though it isn’t great either, I’d probably take Lavazza Organic Tierra! Whole Bean Coffee Blend,Light Roast over this coffee as it’s similar but has more flavor and body. I might mix this with some dark Sumatran I picked up from Costco as it’s all body and could use some brightness.

I really enjoy this coffee. My previous favorite coffee brands I did not always get a perfect cup of coffee, sometimes to strong other times too weak, even when using the same amount of scoops. Now I use only two scoops and it’s a perfect cup. Nice and smooth cup of coffee each time. I‘ve purchased my second back and still love it.

This shouldn’t really be marketed as a light roast, I found it to be pretty darkly roasted and not the flavour I was after. I honestly couldn’t even finish it and ended up giving it to a friend that doesn’t mind a darker/almost burnt flavour. The price is pretty good, but again, it’s not a light roast by any means, and doesn’t have the same flavour. Just take a look at the beans, they are basically black in colour and shiny/greasy looking.
