I was using #2 filters (the smaller ones that seem more fit to this small machine) and having all sorts of trouble. You can’t fit enough grounds in them to get any flavor in the cup, unless you brew a tiny amount. And when you try to max out the filter capacity with enough grounds to make two cups with flavor, the filter overflows, the grounds go down into the pot, and the shutoff valve that prevents drips when you take the pot out mid-brew stops working, leaving you with a mess.
Instead, use #4 filters, fold the bottom up about 2cm, and stuff it into the machine. That gives you more than enough room for all the grounds you need for tasty coffee. You have to bend the top of the filter out and down to make room for the arm that disperses hot water during brewing, and maybe leave the lid ajar at the start of the brew, but that’s all good.

I was having to waste coffee b+5thy making too much . I decided to buy my 5 cup pot.
It’s the smartest thing I’ve done ( lately)
Mr. Coffee makes great coffee and no waste … !!!!

My doctor recommended I start drinking coffee again, for my liver health. No decaf or instant. I had (and still am) drinking green tea instead). So I bought this little coffee maker and it suits my needs just fine. I can easily adjust the flavor and strength by using what kind of coffee I use and how many spoonfuls I use. That is totally personal.

I really really really liked this little guy — it made great tasting coffee — but I decided to return it because I underestimated our consumption & it just wasn’t making enough coffee for our two person household. My fault, not Mr. Coffee’s. While I guess I could have remedied that by making an additional pot after the first, I frankly didn’t want to be bothered doing that every single day (once in a while I would have considered). SO if you are comfortable with the amount of coffee this will produce for you, I think you will also be happy with the quality of the coffee it produces.

I wanted to cut back on my coffee, and the one I bought was smaller in size, where my original was a full 12 c. I believe. Not only that, the original I had took up some valuable space. In addition, I recently went to the dentist and she suggested I cut back because the stains were so hard to deal with. The Mr. Coffee I bought does not have a lot of frills, but not only does it not make as much (or keep me from making a full regular pot). Easy to clean. On/off switch, makes good coffee; but, I am still learning what they suggest as amount of coffee to be added. I think I pretty much have it down.

This one checked all the boxes. It is much more expensive than a base model for half price. For me, you get what you pay for, and I have a very nice unit. 😊😊

For a long time I’ve searched for Mr. Coffee’s 4 cup coffee maker but all I’ve found here and on eBay is one that’s not used. That one is at a ridiculous price when you add in a highway-robbery price for delivery. What would show up in my searches on Amazon was this 5 cup version. I had resisted buying it for about a year, but finally ordered it a few nights ago — then promptly cancelled the order because some reviews made me think I wouldn’t like it. Fast-forward to last night shortly before midnight. I decided to give this maker a chance to prove it was worth buying, so I hit the buy button. It was here, waiting for me when I woke up today.
I love it. The design differences between this model and the 4 cup one were things I thought I would hate, but I don’t. Really, I have only one quibble. The filters don’t fit nicely in the filter holder, but that doesn’t affect how they perform. Over time I may be disappointed if the pot’s lid gets coffee stains on it. Cleaning this 5 cup model is easier than the 4 cup one is. That’s because my hand fits more easily in the pot for drying it, thanks to the bigger size. I also like the finish on this model. It’s mostly a matte white which will go with the matte white toaster oven I’ll be receiving tomorrow.
I also like the on/off switch that is on both models. I use an Echo smart plug that I can turn on via my voice as soon as I wake up: “Alexa, turn on coffee.” The switch is always in the on position but the plug is off until I tell Alexa to turn on the coffee. When the maker is on, I appreciate the fact there is not automatic shut off after a certain length of time, like there is with other coffee makers. When having two mugs of coffee, I often don’t get around to drinking the second mug till an hour or more later. I want it to be hot when I’m ready for it. Reheating coffee in the microwave is not the same as having the pot on the heat. There’s a scientific reason for this.
Now about the coffee: it tastes great with both models. I think it takes the 5 cup model longer to make the coffee but it’s really not an issue. I will never brew 5 cups. Most often, I will use the 2-cup setting with 3 scoops of coffee. I like it strong. Someone needs to let Mr. Coffee know they are lousy at measuring cup sizes. My mug (which looks bigger in the photo than it actually is) holds 11 ounces. The 2 cup setting delivers a little less than 11 ounces. I think Mr. Coffee uses the usual cup size other coffee makers do: just 6 ounces per cup (not the expected 8 ounces for those of us who use a regular measuring cup for our cooking needs). But the 2 cup setting gives me less than 12 ounces. It’s closer to 10.5 ounces. I doubt I’ll ever use more than the 4 cup setting which will give me two mugs of coffee.
The pot is easier to pour from versus the 4 cup version. Getting the last little bit out of the 4 cup version is difficult, but super easy with the 5 cup version.
It’s obvious I love this 5 cup model. I hope Mr. Coffee won’t stop making it in the future like they did with the 4 cup version. When I need a new coffee maker, I want this model to be here, ready and waiting for me to hit the buy button again.

My favorite coffee doesn’t come in pods, and disposable pods were annoying to use. This is perfect for my office at work. I can easily brew my coffee and leave it on for a few hours. I don’t care for the timers that inevitable shut off and when you go for more coffee, it’s no longer hot. Yah, you have to remember to turn this off, but when I pour my last cup, that’s when I shut it off. I found this a better alternative than the single cup coffee makers that let you use your own grounds as I can make more coffee and the disposable papers filters are cheap and easy to discard.

I am updating my review. It appears that the paper coffee filters were the problem in the brewing cycle. I swapped out the paper filters for a brewing basket which made all the difference. Brewing time became “normal”; however, there was still a few coffee grounds that ended up in the coffee pot.
Was surprised as to how poorly designed this coffee maker is. I have purchased Mr Coffee coffee makers for many years and have never had the problems that I have with this one. The coffee filter constantly folds into itself causing coffee grounds to end up in the pot. It also takes FOREVER to brew and when you think that it is done (I have waited for over 10 minutes) and pour a cup for yourself, the maker continues to drip onto the warmer plate.
