I own this grinder as well as the ICOFER, the OWERSLYN and the TIMEMORE C2. Of the four, this is my favorite, for a number of reasons:
1) Price: You simply can’t find a quality grinder such as this for the price.
2) Construction: Solid metal, including the hopper and the grinder adjustment dial.
3) Form factor: It is narrow enough to fit inside of my Aeropress. The narrowness makes it easier to hold while grinding.
4) Rubber Foot: There is a rubber circle on the bottom, meaning that if you place it on a hard. slippery surface while grinding, it won’t slide around.
5) The Hopper: Many people don’t even consider what material the hopper is made out of. The TIMEMORE C2 has a plastic hopper, which is good, but can still hold onto a little bit of the grinds due to static build up. One of my grinders has a glass hopper, which, although it looks cool, has a tendency to build up a charge while grinding that makes it exceeding difficult to empty all of the grinds out of. This YESSDAYS grinder has a metal hopper that is slick inside and releases all of the grinds when you pour them out. Additionally, the threads on the hopper fit perfectly into the grinder, so that there is absolutely no difficulty screwing the two back together.
6) Looks: Although this is subjective, the two-tone color scheme of this unit is quite handsome looking.
Simply put, this grinder checks all of the boxes and is everything that you should want or need for a handheld grinder. That, and the price is amazing. I have a feeling I’ll be giving away my other grinders as gifts and holding onto this one for quite some time.

I just received this grinder and enjoying the first cup. The grinder produced a much more consistent grind for my pour over compared to the blade grinder I was using. I love the grind adjustment dial, I’m going have fun getting that perfect grind. This grinder is solid and hopefully will last a long time.

Well made, easy to use. Had been looking to buy an electric grinder, but they all seemed to have mixed reviews. Very happy that I went for the manual grinder instead.

The grinder feels of high quality. It’s easy to use and the setup was intuitive.
It’s smaller than I thought it would be. However, this is my first coffee bean grinder, so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. After using it, though, I highly recommend it.

It’s built like a piece of precision instrument, so be gentle when re-screwing the cup back into the body so you don’t strip the threads. I bought this as a backup while resolving an issue with my electric burr grinder. I grind 3 tablespoons of mild roast coffee beans at Setting of 2 to produce two K-cups filled to about 75%-85% capacity, giving my wife and I two smooth cup of coffee of 10 oz and 12 oz resp.
Probably because my beans are mild roast, holding the bottom of this grinder down on a solid surface and turning the crank was a chore. Most embarrassing of all, my wife who’s 2″ shorter than I showed me off by accomplishing the task with relative ease (Groan!)
However, I eventually redeemed myself by holding its bottom against my belt and stomach with my left hand and turning the crank with my right, all at an oblique angle instead of upright. For me, this was so much easier.

I’m really glad I bought this grinder rather than the one that was 10 dollars cheaper. This is a beautiful grinder, more correctly an instrument of grinding, very finely wrought work of art. Yes, it takes about 120 seconds of arm work to grind a load of beans, but half way thru one is rewarded by the sublime and transcendent aroma of coffee! In my case, Ethiopian Yirg which I had carefully roasted to City+. The grind is perfect for Espresso.

Updated to 5 stars:
Original review title, “Nice, but have an engineer double check the printed instructions.”
If you haven’t used a hand grinder before, just know it takes longer than you think. This product works well, and it is fun to unbox. After one day, I have practice-brewed a bunch of cups with different settings using my first and new aeoropress and one with my old French Press. I bought this for work, where the free coffee helps you through those long days, but also makes you yearn for better coffee. The notion of using anything like an electric motor in my hard working cubicle farm just felt very inconsiderate, so hand-grinding it is. You have to think of it is part of the coffee break.
The good.
Very nice even grind. Just enough resistance on the handle. Easy to turn, but very noticeable when you are done and the handle starts spinning with almost no resistance. This sudden drop and knowing that all your effort is grinding the beans and not fighting friction is very satisfying. I also hope that it is an indicator of durability. The gold and black cylinder is beautiful, but snarky children might, just might, say something disparaging like, “It’s a battery”, something you can’t unsee. It works great on all settings 8-24 clicks. I am currently drinking my first silt-free French press coffee in years. It is tasty and no grit. Who could ask for anything more?
Room for improvement.
Update: trying the scale again, I conclude that it does hold 30g of medium roast but 20g of dark roast. This won’t matter to most of us, but to those who use scales, they’ll appreciate that volume measurements for coffee are notoriously inaccurate. In other words, not YessDays’ fault. The 30g number is sincere and most customers who care (third wave coffee drinkers) will be using medium roast coffee beans.
The printed instruction seem a little off
The instruction say not to fill over 30g. Naturally this made me pull out my scale and see what that looked like. The YessDays Grinder completely fills at 20g; I would challenge anyone to get 30g of beans into this. But don’t try. You wont succeed, and you will make a mess. It’s probably a data transcription error, or maybe some marketing person wanted to subtly deceive unwary consumers about the true capacity. Full disassembly for inspection and cleaning should be done with care in a clutter-free area. The grind setting mechanism requires a spring, and there are little washers. Be ready to catch things. The instructions also have one too many washers depicted, at least a think so. After fetching the washers out my sink and anxiously inspecting the disposal, I decided I was not in fact missing a washer. The reassembled grinder worked just fine, so I think I am good. Please, YessDays, check the instructions and make sure they aren’t written for an older model or something. If the diagram is correct, and there are in fact two washers above the spring, please send me one. I either lost it, or am missing it.
Update:
After more than a week of loving this grinder, I can overlook any shortcomings, especially since it’s in the documentation and not the actual operation of the grinder. Mainly,
1. With a little practice, it’s easy to take apart and reassemble. Easy to keep clean = better taste.
2. My missing part problem was really the lower bearing sitting very firmly in chassis. I am no longer concerned, and customer service was very eager to help, but I don’t really need it, now that I know what was going on.
3. Forget what my daughter thinks, I like it, and “battery” is the perfect metaphor for anything coffee related.
4. The capacity is really only 20g, but it is easy to refill and grind a second batch for my humongous French press, I don’t mind because the all-metal construction and no static cling really keeps things moving along.
I would also add that is so simple to use that I think this is better than electric. Imagine making early morning coffee and having to trouble-shoot an electric grinder, yikes.
Conclusion: I am buying my second yesssdays grinder; one for home too.
