Buying Guide – Manual Coffee Grinder
Why choose a manual coffee grinder?
Manual coffee grinders offer several advantages over electric grinders. They allow you to have more control over the grind size, resulting in a superior coffee flavor. Manual grinders are also portable and perfect for camping trips or situations where electricity is not available. Additionally, they tend to be quieter and easier to clean compared to electric grinders.
Factors to consider when selecting a manual coffee grinder:
1. Grind Settings:
Look for a coffee grinder with adjustable grind settings, preferably with a built-in adjustable grind selector. This feature allows you to select the desired grind size, whether you prefer a fine or coarse grind, to achieve the perfect coffee extraction.
2. Burr Material:
Stainless steel conical burrs are an excellent choice for manual coffee grinders. They are durable, heat-resistant, and produce a consistent grind size. Avoid grinders with low-quality burrs as they may not provide the desired uniformity in the coffee grounds.
3. Portability:
If you plan to use the coffee grinder for camping or on-the-go, consider its portability. Look for a compact and lightweight design that is easy to carry and doesn’t require a power source. Cordless coffee grinders are ideal for such situations.
4. Noise Level:
If noise is a concern, opt for a manual coffee grinder with a smooth and quiet operation. Removable hand crank mechanisms tend to generate less noise compared to electric grinders, allowing for a peaceful coffee grinding experience.
5. Ease of Cleaning:
Check if the coffee mill, handle, and glass jar can be disassembled easily for cleaning. Ideally, all parts should be washable to ensure proper hygiene. Some coffee grinders are even dishwasher-safe, making the cleaning process more convenient.

I’m a coffee roaster person so finding a good grinder is important to me. It’s not a great practice to spend time roasting a bean to have a poor grinder. This is the reason why I chose the pictures that I did. First of all, I was a little worried seeing the box. To me, the box did not look like a quality product. I feel that the box does not do justice to this grinder. Secondly, I really don’t like how little beans I am able to grind at a time. I love big cups of coffee, I cannot lie. Each grind is probably for a ‘regular’ cup of coffee. Now for what I love about this grinder. I love being able to look at the grind settings at the bottom of the grinder. For some other grinders, after a second or third grind, you can’t see the numbers. I LOVE being able to still see the grind settings after a lot of coffee being ground. The coffee being ground is pretty consistent. What I really LOVE about this grinder is how easy it is to grind coffee. It feels like, after a couple of turns of the arm, I am done with the grinding. It grinds really fast for me. I also like that my hand does not slip from the handle. I have had other grinders that my hand slips and I end up smashing into my hand. With this grinder, my hand does not slip. This grinder, to me, has a GREAT handle. It is so smooth, that it must be felt when grinding. Overall, I LOVE this grinder and would encourage friends and family to buy this. I don’t know about gifting this due to the box, but I would buy another one.

This coffee grinder is easy to use. It is the perfect size for single cups. I would recommend and purchase again.

This is way smaller than I expected so it doesn’t hold very much. But it works really well. It is easy and smooth to turn the handle to grind there’s coffee beans. My husband used this more than I and he really likes it. To him it doesn’t affect the flavor of the coffee.

I like this so much I was surprised lol. There’s something really satisfying about manually grinding my espresso beans. It definitely adds to the whole coffee ritual, if you’re into that! I was originally just looking for a burr grinder, because of the uniform and consistent grind they produce. All electric grinders I found, although similar in price, seemed really bulky and would need to be stored in a cabinet. This grinder is like the stick shift of burr grinders and has so many pros:
beautiful – we keep this out on our coffee station because it goes so well with our industrial decor
quality – all steel with a glass catch chamber for clean coffee and pure taste
compact – perfect 2 person (2 shot each) use, super travel friendly, ergonomic and feels nice to hold
practical – all inclusive, easy to use, multiple grind size settings, anywhere on the go or in the home use, easy to clean (comes with a cleaning brush), simple, beautiful, functional design. You could grind a bunch of coffee with this in batches, but since we’re just a duo and like our beans ground fresh each time the grind quantity is perfect for us.
I honestly couldn’t recommend this more! 10 stars!

I could not get it to grind the coffee very finely, it’s a nice item, and it feels nice, but for grinding coffee it does not work as well as some others. It’s very easy to crank the grinders handle. I will be trying it with different beans and seeing if any of them make a difference with this grinder. Overall, it’s decent, but I could not get it to ground the coffee as finely as an electric one can.

Oh my goodness, I just love this little grinder! I am the only one who drinks coffee in my house, so I only need enough beans for one cup (one large cup….) at a time and this is the perfect grinder for that. I like to grind my beans instead of buy pre-ground because I think it makes for a much better tasting cup of coffee. The handle is long so it’s very easy to grind the beans and they are done very quickly. I personally wish the texture adjustment was in a more convenient spot, but it’s easy to adjust. I tried to get pictures of a fine grind and a coarser grind, but I’m not sure if it comes through well in the pictures. I actually think that it grinds finely better than coarsely–but in my opinion that’s the one I need to be more precise anyway. I make coffee with a French press, a drip coffee maker or a coffee press so it’s awesome that I can get whatever texture I need without a lot of work! I absolutely love that it has a container on the bottom to catch all the grinds and that it’s glass. I travel quite a bit and with this I know that I can have good quality coffee and don’t have to settle for instant or coffee pods. I also know that even if the power goes out….I can still have my coffee! I had an electric grinder, but I like to switch my coffee flavor each day and I didn’t feel like it did well clearing all of the beans out and my flavors would get muddled, this grinder is absolutely perfect for me. I would give it six stars if I could!

I don’t think I’ve had a morning without coffee in 15 years or so. I drink a lot of coffee, too. I make a 7 – 8 cup size pot every morning and it’s gone by noon. This cannot be good for me. I’ve found that grinding my own beans is really the only acceptable way to make a cup of coffee. If you have a problem like I do, I think you’ll understand and agree.
When I’m camping, I’m still going to have coffee in the morning. Lots of it. To that end, I ordered this little manual grinder, as mashing beans with rocks is primitive and produces an inconsistent grind. I tested this little grinder at home and found it very satisfying. I ground my normal 7 – 8 cup portion of beans at a leisurely pace in a total of about 2 minutes and 20 seconds, which included having to half refill the grinder once.
And therein lies my only complaint: the capacity. It might be large enough for a normal solo traveler, but if you’re abnormal or cooking for a group, you’re going to be refilling this grinder. Otherwise, it’s a great little grinder and well worth your consideration.

This truly makes the perfect cup of coffee! My only gripe is I wish the handle somehow snapped on. I spilled the beans on my first go round lol.
