Size wise this little coffee maker suits the purpose of being handy for just a couple cups of coffee. It takes up less space then other small coffee makers, is easy to clean and I really like the fact I don’t have to buy paper filters. Only slight drawback – not quite as flavorable coffee as what you can brew in a large 12 cup quality coffee maker.

I honestly don’t know how this coffee maker got so many acceptable reviews! I ordered it because I was in need of a small, basic machine and there were enough decent reviews that I figured that it couldn’t be a horrible product. Boy was I ever wrong! I have had so many problems with this machine since the beginning I don’t even know where to begin. First of all, the “sneak a cup” pause feature is complete BS and doesn’t work at all. When you remove the carafe to pour a cup before it is finished brewing, it just keeps brewing and immediately starts dripping coffee all over the hotplate element. Fine. A pain in the butt, but I could have lived with that if everything else was okay. Not!!!

Not only can you not “sneak” a cup before it has finished brewing, you cannot even dare pour yourself a cup when it has supposedly FINISHED brewing. Even when done, as soon as you remove the carafe, the coffee keeps leaking all over the hotplate. It creates a big mess that you have to wipe up and the coffee sticks to the element and cooks on it making it hard to clean up. The only way to avoid this mess is to wait more than 1/2 an hour to dare to pour your first cup of coffee, thereby allowing it to finish its stupid dripping process.

If this wasn’t enough, the other huge problem is that the coffee grounds themselves spill all over the place during the brewing process. When it is done brewing you will find thick coffee residue all over the top of the lid of the glass carafe, all over the inside of the filter holder, as well as coffee grounds themselves inside the pot of coffee! It creates an unholy mess all over the place and is a disaster to clean up. Between this, and the fact that the coffee itself drips onto the element means that for a simple cup of coffee you are looking at a massive, time-consuming, messy cleanup, as well as a massive waste of water to clean everything.

Now if you felt that this still wasn’t enough to go wrong….just wait for it! On top of all this, the brewing process itself often stops halfway through. The coffee will just suddenly stop dripping into the carafe. When you go over and lift the lid of the machine to see what the eff is going on, basically it just stops brewing and fills up to the top of the filter and gets stuck. You have to shake the filter holder a few times and slam the lid back down hard to “jolt” it to continue brewing.

I am NOT a picky coffee machine person. I was just looking for a basic machine that could make a decent cup of two of coffee. It is such a nightmare to operate and creates such an unholy mess, and is so unreliable, it is no way that ANYONE would want to start their day!

I have had many coffee machines in the past and they were all fine. Amazon and Black and Decker should not be selling such a piece of garbage. I would have returned it, but the 30 day return deadline passed around the time that I was suddenly sick and had also just had a death in the family so I missed the deadline. It’s not right, and Amazon should really accept returns past their official return deadline if the product is completely defective such as this one. Not only is it a complete waste of money, but it also causes major aggravation, and this is an assault on the environment since this defective piece of garbage is not recyclable and will end up in landfill.

Do yourself a favour and stay away from this coffee machine!

My husband is the coffee drinker and he is a huge fan of this coffee maker. It makes 2 large mugs which is the perfect amount for him. The basket is great. No paper filters needed! No Keurig cups to add to the landfills. So much better tasting than instant coffee and just as quick to prepare!

J’ai acheté cette cafetière pour mon café du matin. Je vis seule et les capsules Tassimo commence à coûter cher! De plus Tassimo n’est pas écologique puisqu’on ne peux recycler les capsules. Je bois parfois 2 cafés le matin donc ma cafetière BD est parfaite et me donne un café très chaud.

My old coffee maker only made one mug at a time. The coffee was good, but it was inconvenient if you had guests, and I had to clean out the coffee grounds after each and every mug. When it died, I decided to make some changes. I love this coffee maker. I live alone so I don’t really need a full sized coffee maker, and this one is perfect. A full pot easily makes two good sized mugfuls. I like the fact that I can easily get my hand and a scrubby down into the pot to clean it. Someone mentioned that they didn’t like the fact that the entire coffee maker system is so lightweight that you have to sort of hold it down when you turn it on or off. I don’t find this an inconvenient issue at all.

Honestly for an inexpensive coffee maker I’m very impressed. In my area we have very hard water and I’ve replaced too many other coffee machines. I figured this one was inexpensive so I wouldn’t feel bad if it went. However, all of my expectations were completely surpassed. This is the longest lastly coffee maker that I’ve owned (previously owned kcup style coffee makers) so granted I wouldn’t be able to directly compare to other drip coffee makers.

This unit is easy to use and my favorite part is how simple it is to clean without having to buy expensive solutions or go through a daylong process. I always buy freshly roasted beans and grind them right before brewing and the results have been excellent. My other method is making pour overs and this brewer doesn’t quite get to that standard but it makes up for it in ease of use.

One other thing to mention is that a lot of people that own coffee makers with a heating plate complain about is leaving the coffee on the plate for a bit will give it a burnt taste. This is something I haven’t experienced with this coffee maker. There were times where I’ve turned the machine on and forgot only to remember 20 minutes later and it didn’t taste burnt at all so extra credit there.

Lastly I’ll touch on the sneak a cup feature. Basically there is a spring loaded stopper that gets pushed up by the pot to allow the fluid in. As I learned when you pull out the pot it’ll drip a bit and ends up on the warming plate and can be messy. Also, you only have a very short time to do this so have a cup ready before sneaking or else the chamber will fill up and the stopper will not hold that pressure. I got lucky once in that exact situation and as it started to stream out I was able to replace the pot to minimize the mess but just be aware.

Overall definitely worth the money!
