I’ve had several moka pots, and this seemed like such a cool design. I’m a sucker for marketing. This is a very attractive set, and my wife likes to leave it on the stove due to the design.
Unfortunately, there are problems. First of all, it’s pretty elaborate to make a single espresso shot. it’s a very small reservoir and one cup tends to fill 2/3, and the other 1/3. Meh.
The bigger problem is that EVERYTHING heats up to the point that you can’t handle it. The cups have no handle, and they are too small to pick up with a potholder. The cups are way hotter than the coffee inside, and it’s really a frustrating experience. The handle at the front of the unit gets as hot as anything else. If it was larger, you could wear something to protect your hands, but what I do is basically wait until it cools a little and I use folded paper towels to pick up the cups.
Overall, it’s just not a great experience. It’s fun to watch the coffee come out, but its more novelty than a practical kitchen tool

The cups get super hot but they cool down quickly. Also, I melted the handle a bit the first time but its really cool and makes a fine cup of espresso 🤌

If you want a fast espresso to drink with a friend, this is the right moka espresso.
Mala calidad –
For simple espresso making, this works great. Decently easy to set up and use. My biggest complaint would be the plastic “handle”, which doesn’t really do much good when trying to move it off the burner (the balance is off). When using that handle to separate the pieces, I’m slightly afraid it will break off (in the end, I know it cant be metal due to the heat, but slightly better construction would be good). Overall, I’d still recommend it.

I can’t praise the Mini Express enough. I love this thing and it works as advertised. But don’t expect those espresso shot glasses to survive the journey.
The first one arrived two weeks ago. When I picked the box off my porch I could hear the tell tale jingle of broken glass inside the box. I knew from experience that could only mean broken glass or ceramic. Sure enough, one of the two glasses inside was in pieces.
Amazon immediately dispatched a replacement with the caveat I’d have to send the old one back within thirty days or I get charged for both.
But I needed coffee man, I’m not gonna sit around not drinking coffee in the meantime. So I started using the mini express with my own shot glasses. Flawless. A work of art. Bellissimo!
Took about ten days for the replacement to get here. Once again I heard a small clink from inside the box. I knew it would not be as bad, but I knew what to expect. Only a small chip this time! Much better.
So tomorrow, I’m sending back the new and unused mini express with both broken glasses and keeping the original. My procrastination has one again paid off and saved me from having to send back ANOTHER perfectly good mini express. Hope the mini express I’m sending back can find a second life somehow.
But also hope that Bialetti learns to maybe use some bubble wrap or something in shipping these in the future. Otherwise, five stars across the board.

This is a great portable expresso machine. Several reviews mentioned the cups and unit got to hot to touch. I have and electric stove and have not experienced this problem. In 5 minutes, good expresso, can’t beat that!!
