To start, this is a Chinese clone of the Bialetti Moka Espress. I do not have one of the originals to compare directly, though the original appears to have a sturdier handle.
This is my first coffeemaker as I’m a tea drinker by nature (most of the time at least). I have used percolators and drip machines to make coffee with family though. So far, this pot has made some decently strong cups of coffee that have been what I would expect. Not exactly espresso, but also not drip coffee. It does not take a long time to make a cup, maybe 10 minutes. You will find some good videos on Youtube showing advanced techniques to get the most out of these, but I just used it the old fashioned way.
Pros: The aluminum body seems well made, and it looks nice. It makes good coffee, and is smaller than a full coffee maker.
Cons: The box said that the instructions were inside, but there were none. The handle feels a bit flimsy and leaves a lot to be desired. The relief valve must be a it weak, since it triggers right around when the machine starts to pass water through the coffee. I suspect a genuine Moka pot would not do that. This is probably why the pot does not gurgle very loudly at the end of a brew.
Other: I got the 6 cup version and you have to keep in mind that these are not 6 cups of standard coffee. It is much more like espresso shots. With cream and such, I find that this is good for one normal coffee mug.
Overall, not a bad product and a great way to “test the waters” of coffee if you are not sure if you are into it.
