All Vertuo pods from this & last months’ subscription orders seem to be defective. The pods are all for a 7.7 ounce cup; they consistently overflow a 16 ounce mug and produce a watery cup of high-end and expensive coffee.

Hubby and I were in the habit of having a daily cup of Nespresso together and we both looked forward to it. Now, I am just OVER IT.

I did some research and found out that we can stand and hold the start button down (the button that should be lit green). Just stand there and hold the button down and when the button is released, it will stop the coffee-making process & it will have reprogrammed that particular pod to the new size cup. It actually worked. It continues past the button release for a couple seconds, the last of the frothy steamy part of the cycle. We get a few varieties of Nespresso pods and will have to reprogram for each type of pod to an 8 ounce output. It has been descaled and lovingly cleaned – both the older machine and the new one.

These overflow problems are from our second Vertuo machine (Breville) AND a new DeLonghi Vertuo machine. I’ve purchased over 34 sleeves of this particular Nespresso coffee from Amazon. If you put a 10-12 ounce coffee mug on the thing and push the start button and walk away — you’ll come back to a great big mess and a cup of very watery coffee. Nespresso, what is going on?!

I love the smell but not strong enough

 There is a difference between an expiry date and a best before date. These pods are correctly labelled for expiry dates, not for best before dates. I work in a high-volume grocery store and there have been times where I have purchased excellent coffee brands and found the beans or grind to be flavourless and acidic, only to see that they were produced eons ago. This is one of those times. Not only that but there may be an issue with their barcodes. I have included a photo of the coffees and a video of the potentional barcode issue.

1. The quality of the coffee itself is probably fine. But of the four packs of pods I purchased at around a $1.50 a pod, only one set is fresh, the Diavolito. It’s the only of the four that has any decent flavour at all. Today is the fifth of september, labour day, and this hard labourer wanted a good cup of coffee. The Stormio was my first try, it was just OK on my first pod, not much flavour, but better than some pods I’ve had on my keurig. And the cup was well made in my machine, I had that yesterday. The second was the Odacio I tried to have this morning. I made two, one filled my coffee cup to the brim and was watered-down filth so I dumped it, and made a Stormio in my beer mug to see what was happening (and made the video).

2. For whatever reason the machine doubles some of the 230ml pods, once for my Stormio, once for my Odacio, so far two out of three. I made a Diavolito and an Altissio, and both were perfectly well made, everything’s got a nice crema, but the Altissio is acidic and flavourless. The doubling may be the machine or the pod, I have no real way of knowing. This isn’t a low-end drip machine with a bad filter or an overfilled reservoir, it’s almost a bleeding-edge Nespresso Vertuo Next. I just didn’t put in for all the bells and whistles because I take my coffees black or sometimes with some hazelnut syrup for a treat. Just for the sake of testing, I manually stopped the machine at a little under 250ml, because I don’t have a 230ml measuring cup, and although the coffee was made perfectly and beautifully, it is absolutely flavourless with a hint of acid. So that racks it up to 6 wasted cups at a $1.50 each, that’s $9 of misery, and one okay cup worth half it’s cost.

I understand companies have to make their money back and sell what they produce but if you misjudge the market it’s on you and you will have to eat your money, that’s life. Happens to me all the time. These pods are so awesome but they are so expensive, so production has to be kept as close to the chest as possible to ensure the quality meets the price. The only way in hell I would ever even consider paying $1.50 a pod and up to do the work myself of making the coffee, cleaning the mug and, if I am responsible, seperating the grind and the aluminum into the compost and the recycling, and then cleaning the pod for the recycling.. is if I was going to get a good Barista-level cup of coffee, not some cheap sitting-in-a-hot-pot-for-an-hour flavourless crap from the around the corner crap-café to help prepare me for the onslaught of customer service crap I gotta deal with on the daily. I’m probably serving better bread, cakes and customer service with a smile to the people responsible for delivering this coffee to me than I am getting from this company.

I don’t think I’m going to purchase this from Amazon because I can get my pods at work for a better price, Starbucks pods which are good, and I can verify the production dates myself.

This was a gift that my employee gives away. Not able to run down to the shopping center to pickup I was able to purchase on line and mail directly to the recipient. Arrived on time, and they enjoyed the gift.

My daughter is away at college and I like to send her little gifts. We got her a Nespresso machine before she left and that’s become one of her favorite items. I order these and have them delivered to her and she just loves getting surprised by them. These are her favorite flavors and the few I’ve shared with her while visiting have been delicious.

I order these often as the taste and strength are perfect. On top of it all, I truly appreciate that 99% of the time, my order is shipped and received on the same day! I have run out of coffee a few times on a Fri -not having enough for the weekend, and by Fri evening or before I wake up Sat morning, it is on my doorstop. So appreciative!
