I’ve wanted an espresso machine for awhile since buying lattes every morning is expensive. I figured this would be a good starter machine.
The pros: It makes a good cup of coffee, I mean really good. Way better than the machine we had. It has nice features, it’s extremely easy to use, looks great in the kitchen, and was affordable. We use it every day with no problems. I can finally make a good latte in the morning. I feel spoiled.
The cons: The quality of the espresso maker parts is poor. The portafilter is lower quality, the espresso seems to brew a little too fast at times, and don’t get me started on the wand. It’s flimsy and cheap and hard to steam milk so that it’s silky. The product designers definitely gave up. It would be much better with an upgraded steam wand. That being said, it does good enough for me and, given the price, it’s understandable.
Overall, I do recommend this machine. However, if you’re a coffee aficionado and have the money, then a higher-end machine would probably suit your needs best.

The machine doesn’t automatically decide how much water to send through for an espresso, so you have to manually turn off the water when you have enough espresso, which means you have to know the timing of how much water to give your espresso really well in order for it to be just right. That being said, it does an excellent espresso. Funnily enough, the box was missing the drip coffee maker pot, but the company is sending a replacement.

I would like to point out, this vendor was very helpful. However, the manufacturer Delonghi is awful. After about 3 months, the espresso side heating element became spotty. Sometimes it would stop heating (the light wouldn’t blink, and it would run but everything would come out cool) unless I unplugged the machine. No weird smells or smoke, no heat in weird places, I contacted Delonghi and it has been a 3 week process. The first instance, customer service wanted a video of the problem – and only passed on to the Safety team after I explained that I wasn’t going to leave it plugged in, and there is potentially a short in machine. Then, over a week later, I get a message from the safety team that they will replace the item and then sent me a shipping label, and they said I’d get a replacement after they received the model. No timeline, no box for shipping–which due to the size of the machine, will not be cheap, especially if I want it to be not damaged–and I have to go out of my way to drop it at a FedEx during business hours. I also have never had this where the company did not ship the replacement, with a shipping box, then say to send back to the old unit. Even cable companies will send you a replacement set top box, then include the label and tell you to send the old unit back in the original packaging. Old Navy is better about sending shipping equipment for returns. On top of the fact that while I am hesitant to use the espresso side, I will be out a coffee maker for who knows how long. When I asked the rep to put me through to a supervisor, they said I’d receive a call in 48 hours, then she called me back in about 20 minutes and said the reason why they can’t send me a box is because “they don’t have one.” Are you kidding me? You are a company who doesn’t have a box? And that’s also why you can’t send me a replacement? So what kind of replacement am I getting? And how long will it take? I told her while I knew it wasn’t her fault as a rep, this is unacceptable from the company and is something I’d consider reporting to the BBB. Delonghi will entirely place the onus on the customer if anything goes wrong. I will never purchase from Delonghi again and will be following up with this if I don’t receive a call soon.

I did a lot of research before buying this and after a few days with it I am very happy I chose this machine. It’s unique to have a coffee maker, frother, and espresso machine in one, and this machine does all 3 things very well.
I am learning how to best pack the espresso to make a strong shot, so far they’ve been a little more like coffee on the strength side but this could be because of the Costco beans we use. I will try different qualities and see how it compares. I did make a VERY yummy iced caramel macchiato!
I used the frother once so far and am pleased with how quickly it heats the milk. Again, I’m still learning, I may have put too much milk in, so I didn’t get a great froth on my first try. It’s also VERY loud, I kinda feel like ear protection of some kind should be recommended it’s so loud. But it is super powerful so it’s worth it, just something to be aware of.
I bought the Cuisinart coffee grinder with 18 grind settings and recommend it as it makes the whole process pretty effortless.

Overall, its an OK machine. Drip coffee is good, with easy front load access for water. Certainly a plus. Milk frother seems good and is easy to clean afterwards.
As for just “meh”.. A disppointing feature is -the water for the “Espresso” shots need to be turned off once dispensing begins, instead of pouring the correct amount for an espresso. Had hoped for regulated sizes of espresso shots like many other machines do. Maybe just me….
Negative- We received a defective unit- Drip coffee side did not function at all, and this is a NON-RETURNABLE item. Amazon did issue a refund after a conversation with Customer service team, but be warned that it could potentially be a hassle to get a refund, even when the machine is defective right out of the box.
