Very disappointed in this one. Its extremely loud which I didn’t think much of with it being the first one I ever owned until I had to replace already only about 2 months since I purchased. It’s hard to describe all the little design flaws in this thing that you just keep putting up with without a whole lot of thought but my biggest complaint was you had to continuously shake/beat it to keep the beans falling into the grinder or it would SCREAM letting you know there was nothing being ground. One day it just stopped. No warning or anything. It wouldnt grind at all. I took it apart and reassembled it all and it started grinding again for a little while but the adjustment was gone and it would not grind fine enough to make espresso anymore. It stopped again shortly after. Save your money. I bought a little $10 one for now until I find something bigger and nicer to spend my money on. Scared to get another piece of garbage like this one.

Grinds coffee beans from a fine powder to course. Static electricity in the bin after grinding makes clean up a bit more work. Otherwise very happy with the purchase.

The grinder looks nice and compact. Not too loud. But at the finest settings it is coarser than Lavazza Oro ground coffee I usually drink and of Trader Joe’s Italian espresso fine grind (possibly Illy repackaged).
It works in a De’Longhi Stilosa espresso machine with a pressurized portafilter, but it is not finer than the grind I get with the grinders at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, which also are not fine enough.
The finest grind this grinder produces is finer than the average pre-ground coffee available in the USA but is coarser than the pre-ground coffee available in Italy like Lavazza, Illy, Kimbo, etc.
I was hoping this would produce a finer, more uniform ground. I had a Hario manual grinder in the past which produced better ground coffee, but it would take forever.
I may return this, as I may just keep buying pre-ground Lavazza Oro, which is great, and I can alternate with other brands.
Of course, ground coffee may lose the aroma and flavor after the package is opened, but maybe that is also in our minds.
Anyway, this is a decent grinder if not specific for espresso. you can make it work with the portafilter.
But since I brew coffee with Moka pots and an espresso machine, I may end up returning this.

It’s hard to find an electric burr grinder at this price level at all, but this one actually does a pretty good job, which makes it a good value. The footprint is pretty small, so you won’t have to find much room on your counter to add another kitchen gadget. It handles whole beans for up to 10 cups. A dial on the front tells the grinder how many cups worth you want to grind. However, I’ve noticed that when I load 6 cups worth of beans into the hopper, the grinder motor will keep going well after the last bean has been ground. So don’t expect to load 10 cups worth of beans and only select 4 cups. You’re likely to end up with more then you need. It’s best to load only the amount you need for each brew.
The grind coarseness dial on the side seems to give the range of size that it shows. Much will depend on the beans you’re using, and how they tend to grind. You will get some fine powder even at the most coarse setting.
Clean up takes a little work, depending on how clean you want it between grinds. The unit comes with a little brush. The center feeder post comes out for access to the burr. Be sure to get it properly seated and locked in before using the unit, or you will end up with large pieces of coffee beans. That center post is what the burr moves up and down against for the coarseness. The receiver box is easy enough to brush out grounds and to rinse with water. The hopper cover is handy for weighing out beans.
Again, it’s an outstanding value, but expect to play around with it a bit to find the ideal settings for your bean / brewer combo.

After getting a different coffee grinder for Father’s day, we realized that we needed a smaller than average burr grinder for our kitchen. There are not too many options out there and reviews make some of the smaller ones seem suspect.
So we ordered this Altra burr grinder, and I can attest that this is a compact grinder that doesn’t overwhelm our smaller kitchen. I also read that many burr grinders are quite loud, but this one is as quiet or quieter than my blade grinder.
I usually don’t make more than six cups at a time, and this grinder seems like it would have no trouble with a full 12 cups worth of beans.
It’s easy enough to use — I’ve only used it for drip and medium grind so far with just minor adjustments, so I can’t speak to whether its coarser grinds are effective. The grinds are uniform enough, but it doesn’t blow me away by its consistency.
My one complaint so far, and this may be unavoidable with the smaller (plastic) grind container that receives the grounds, but the grinds stick all over this container, including the lid. You have to use the little brush that comes with the grinder to “wipe” out the container, unless you want to leave a tenth of your grinds behind.
Overall, seems like a good option if space is an issue in your kitchen.

I was looking for an electric burr grinder, but didn’t know that some are what’s known as a “false burr” burr grinder. The burrs are not sharp and it’s cheaply made and so there’s grind inconsistency that is really noticeable when trying to do espresso. This thing does drip coffee just fine, so if that’s all you’re making, this is an economical way to do so. Though a blade grinder would probably be just as good and even cheaper. The finest setting on this is still not fine enough to get a good tasting espresso. I am now looking for something better. I like my conical burr hand grinder, so will probably look for a conical burr electric grinder. It seems that the flat burrs are where you have to be careful with these poser burrs. Again, I was perfectly happy with this grinder for regular drip coffee, but now that I’m trying to do more espresso type stuff, this is really falling short.
