Bodum Bistro Electric Coffee Stainless Steel Blade Grinder with Adjustable Grind Settings, 8 Inches, Black

I purchased this grinder a little over a year ago. The first couple of times using it the lid was a bit tricky to get it on right, but it wasn’t a big deal. It also started out pretty quiet.
After a year of using this almost every day, it is louder than ever. The lid also slips loose during the middle of the grind, causing the grinder to stop prematurely. I have tried cleaning it and blowing air into all the crevices to no avail. I also contacted their customer service, which was of absolutely no use.
DO NOT BUY THIS GRINDER, unless you don’t mind purchasing a new one every year.

Dead on arrival

I tested this coffee grinder on a whole bag of beans to make the most of it. First of all this Bodum grinder has some heft to it and feels really well made (durable), doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy. Underneath the grinder it has a built in cord wrap that one could easily wrap a bit of cord in if needed, but not the whole cord it seems (it didn’t work in my case for the whole cord). The manual is straight forward and easy to follow. Though, the grinder manual states that medium is for French press, I highly suggest using the course option instead. Medium in my case ended up being “fine”. What is great about this grinder is that you can set the amount needed to be grinded, fill the beans accordingly, like say “12” for 12 cups and then fill to the max fill line, place the lid and lock it and then press “power” button and it will grind automatically while you attend other needs. In that aspect it is really nice. Also, the coffee grinder is very quite in my case as for the one it replaced, 20 years old, was extremely loud.
The power button rotates to adjust your grind need and has a really nice tactile feel to it and feels built to last and rugged. Power button can also be “pulsed” so that you can grind as you wish, just toggle the power button on and off, for that exact grind as needed. The toggle switch to select which setting for how much beans you have placed into the grinder doesn’t feel cheap, but is a bit flimsy, when moving positions. It doesn’t feel like it will fall out, but there is some loosy goosy to it.
When cleaning the grinder the actual lower metal cup is removable and that is fantastic. However, some of your coffee grinds will end up below, which just requires some dry cleaning with a piece of napkin/tissue or brush. I do wish the coffee grinder came with some kind of cleaning brush to make it easier, but that could be more of a personal preference.
Upon fully testing, I did notice that about two to three beans will usually not grind in a full grind on 12 cups. I do not suggest regrinding as for it will lead the coffee to become too fine, but instead collect the beans and place onto the side, in sealed container, until it becomes a large batch and grind them at a later date, or place them into the un-grinded bag again.

Overall, despite the minor negligible issues, I do think this is a fantastic coffee grinder. I put it through its paces and grinded quite a bit to test it and as far as durability and grind options, and sound level, this is a fantastic grinder. I believe it would make a great gift for any coffee lover, from yourself to others as well. Very compact, durable, and the lid is nice & thick.

Awful, disappointing, dead. Don’t waste your money.

I thought Bodum was a good company. I bought this Bodum grinder for my daughter as a Christmas present. It did not work right out of the box and all efforts with customer service have been ignored. So she
has a non-working coffee grinder with a company that doesn’t respond! Something is very wrong here.
